ABSTRACT

The asymmetry between right and left vestibular afferents results on movement perception, which is called vertigo when unreal. The clinical characteristics of vertigo may suggest its origin. For an appropriate diagnosis, triggers and context of the vertigo should be identified, while assessment of eye movements, postural control and gait should be performed. The symptoms and signs suggest the specific tests to perform, both audiological and otoneurological, as well as the complementary electrophysiological and imaging studies.
