General economic characterization of cigarette consumption in Cuba from 2011 to 2013

ABSTRACT

Objective: Carry out a general economic characterization of cigarettes consumption in Cuba from 2011 to 2013.
Methods: Theoretical: Historical-Logical for the intertemporal analysis of the variables studied in the time horizon from 2011 to 2013, Analysis and Synthesis for the study, understanding and projection of the obtained results and the Dialectic- Materialist as a general method of science for the general understanding of the phenomenon studied. Empirical: Arithmetic, for the calculation of indicators. All the variables were analyzed through the use of Microsoft Excel 2013.
Results: The values obtained for the price elasticity of demand suggest that controls on smoking that do not rely on the price of cigarettes and cigars should be applied to a greater extent, due to the high dependence on consumption of these economic goods in Cuban society.
Conclusions: Cigarettes have been shown to be highly necessary goods in Cuba from the economic point of view in the period studied, which emphasizes the high dependence on consumption of these "economic goods" that Cuban society shows.
