ABSTRACT
Introduction: The world prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in people under 20 years of age is estimated in 309.5 per million. In Mexico, in 2014 the ERC ranked 11th in mortality with 51.0 per million in children under one year of age; while in population from one to four years it was in the 20th place with 2.5 cases per million, and for children aged 5 to 14, it was in the 11th place with 7.9 per million.
Objective: To describe the mortality trend due to CKD in population younger than 20 years in Mexico from 2000 to 2014.
Material and methods: We analyzed the database of death certificates due to CKD in people younger than 20 years, from the General Directorate of Health Information since 2000 to 2014.
Results: At National level, there were 5,096 deaths due to CKD in people under 20 year of age. Throughout the period, mortality per million remained stable between 6.57 in 2000 and 5.06 in 2014, with a maximum of 9.15 in 2008.
Conclusion: The variation in CKD is comparable to that reported globally but relatively higher compared to other Latin-American countries.
