ABSTRACT

Introduction: The medical rehabilitation according to the World Health Organization is the set of all the measures used to restore in a disabled the conditions that allow him or her to occupy by his or her own means a place as normal as possible within society.
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of early cardiac rehabilitation in the safety of patients with acute myocardial infarction.
Material and method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in the Adult Intensive Care Unit of the Teaching General Hospital "Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja" in Baracoa- Guantánamo, from 2014 to 2017. A population of 96 patients was obtained by the simple random method. The variables were: age, sex, specific nursing care as a treatment for cardiac rehabilitation and discharge status, for the effectiveness of cardiac rehabilitation a binomial test was applied. The primary data was acquired through the review of medical records.
Results: Subjects over 60 years old predominated with 58.3%, 62.5% belonged to the male sex. 17.7% had some complications and died, 82.3% survived that was given cardiac rehabilitation. Early rehabilitation obtained a favorable evolution.
Conclusions: subjects over 60 years old with AMI predominated, the male sex prevailed over the female sex. Of the sample under study, more than 70% of the patients who were offered nursing care aimed at early rehabilitation, survived and had a favorable evolution, where there was a binomial difference; giving satisfaction to the affected needs of these patients.
