Experiences on the implementation of actions to achieve a culture of peace among university students

ABSTRACT

Background: in the conditions of the current world, violence is generally imposed as the unique way to resolve conflicts, so it is essential to develop a culture of peace in the training for university students.
Objective: to show the experiences on the application of actions aimed at promoting a culture of peace in the process of humanistic formation in university students.
Methods: in 2016 an action research with a qualitative approach was conducted at the "Félix Varela" Pedagogical Headquarters. Theoretical methods were used: historical-logical, analytical-synthetic and inductive-deductive. Empirical methods were also used: participant observation, sentence completion and pedagogical proof.
Results: according to the diagnosis, physical violence was not predominant among the students, however, other manifestations that led to discussions, dislikes and mismanagement of social relationships were confirmed, so with the aim of promoting a culture of peace among them, actions were implemented. Actions involved both students and teachers. Among these actions for sparking motivation in its execution variety prevailed, and both curricular spaces and those of the university extension, were used.
Conclusions: the experiences gained were positive and contributed to modify the initial state of students' behavior, as well as the methodological ways of training of teachers with respect to the delopment of a culture of peace.
