ABSTRACT

Background: distance learning is attractive to develop teaching activities with a growing application in the strategies of permanent education.
Objective: to show the opinions of the teachers of the "Hermanos Ameijeiras" postgraduate center on the use of this modality in the development of a course held in 2015-2016.
Methods: an observational study was carried out in which theoretical methods were used: analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction, and empirical methods: the survey in the form of a questionnaire to explore opinions on general and specific aspects related to the technological and teaching-learning processes, and appreciation of its future viability. For data processing, measures of central tendency and percentage analysis were used.
Results: most of the respondents had no previous experience in the virtual environment. The highest averages of the points awarded corresponded to the quality of the assessment instruments, the achievement of the objectives, the motivation for reflection and the quality of the resources for learning, the least valued were the possibility of discussing and exchanging, and the time available to carry out the activities related to the development of the teaching-learning process. The main difficulties related to the use of technologies due to connection problems, mainly soluble.
Conclusions: the opinions of the professors on the implementation of this modality of distance learning were favorable, reason why its application in other educational contexts was considered feasible.
