ABSTRACT

Cervical cancer is the second cause of women death worldwide, and the first cause in women living in developing countries, including Mexico. This disease is avoidable since it can be detected at the beginning by cervical cytology. Microscopical observation of the stained smear allows detecting preneoplasic lesion, which can be treated, reducing significantly the development of cervical cancer. A complete study for cervical cancer should also include colposcopy and biopsy, nevertheless the literature indicates low congruency of cytology-colposcopy-biopsy. Therefore we analyzed the expedients of women that had abnormal cytology; of these we found 184 in which cytology, colposcopy and biopsy were performed. The correlation in these cases was 72.82%.
