Educational community actions of the project “Sí a la Vida”. Nueva Paz, 2013-2015

ABSTRACT

Introduction: in Cuba more than three quarters of deceased are related to non- transmissible diseases and other health damages, and among them there is the suicidal behavior.
Objective: to design community actions for the prevention of suicide attempts in Nueva Paz.
Methods: taking into consideration that there is a weakness for the adequate execution of the National Program of Prevention and Attention to Suicidal Behavior in Nueva Paz, a technological development research was designed, a set of community actions were created in the period from January 1st, 2013 to December 31st, 2015 in Nueva Paz.
Results: the fourteen community education actions were contemplated in five components directed to health workers, the preparation of community mental health agents, as well as inter-sectorial actions that transformed the problem.
Conclusions: the validation of experts about the designed instruments and the obtained results show that the designed activities are effective, useful, with an impact on mental health services and community training actions.
