ABSTRACT
Introduction: It is well known that the main objective of rehabilitation after cerebral vascular disease is to recover independence in daily activities and maximize participation in the community. Canadian guidelines recommend hospital rehabilitation after a moderate cerebral vascular event, however, it is important to determine the objectives to achieve a real benefit, because an inadequate decision may have impact on the functional level and quality of life.
Material and methods: Retrospective cohort study of a group of 31 patients who suffered a cerebral vascular event between January 2016 and December 2018 at ABC Medical Center Santa Fe Facility. We analyzed age, gender, clinical classification, average in-hospital stay, FIM in admission and discharge, change of FIM.
Results: We compared the difference of FIM in admission vs at discharge of the program, finding a statistically significant difference [2.62 (0.43-5.95) vs 4.1 (1.05-6.67; p ‹ 0.001)] after receiving an intensive hospital rehabilitation program.
Conclusions: In this cohort, patients receiving an intensive rehabilitation program have a statistically significant change in the functional scale.
