ABSTRACT

Introduction: The National Integral Attention to Men's Health Policy is an important guiding tool and reorientation of actions towards the male population aged 20 to 59 years, constituting a priority area of health care in Brazil.
Objective: To know the action of the health professional as a mediator of the relationship between man and basic health care.
Methods: A qualitative study conducted through interviews of 20 health professionals from primary care units health of Niterói, located in the state of Rio de Janeiro/Brazil, after approval by the Ethics Committee of the Antonio Pedro University Hospital, Federal University Fluminense. Data were collected from February to August 2012 and analyzed by means of discourse analysis.
Results: The health professionals are unaware of the analyzed scenarios the National Policy on Comprehensive Care Men's Health and thus do not correlate with the guidelines of the policy demands brought by men who access the health services, with the mediation of the bond process under construction.
Conclusions: The fragile movement to establish a connection using some specific strategies diverging guidelines specified by the policy in question. Indicates the need to socialize the National Integral Attention to Men's Health Policy in different social institutions, as well as ongoing training and between professionals and managers whose focus is the reorientation of lifestyle and health care by man.Conclusions: The fragile movement to establish a connection using some specific strategies diverging guidelines specified by the policy in question.
