ABSTRACT
Introduction: The laparoscopic approach offers advantages over the open approach in the treatment of complications in abdominal surgery. Our objective is to describe the experience in the Surgical Clinic 2 of the Hospital Maciel.
Material and methods: Retrospective and descriptive study that includes patients reintervened by laparoscopy independently of the initial approach, between 2017-2019. We determined variables such as cause of reintervention, operating time, findings, conversion and definitive procedure, among others.
Results: 18 patients were included. The most frequent cause was suspected colorectal suture failure. Thirteen reinterventions were early (before the seventh day) and in five cases had to be converted to open surgery.
Conclusions: The laparoscopic approach in the diagnosis and treatment of complications in abdominal surgery is feasible.
