ABSTRACT

Introduction: Fibromyalgia suffers from pain frequently reported in women of reproductive age. A method to evaluate the sympathetic fibers in peripheral neuropathies, is the evaluation of the sympathetic response of the skin. Objective: Search association between small fiber neuropathy and fibromyalgia, in patients treated at the Hospital Central Militar. Material and methods: Pilot study, population-35 patients; A sympathetic skin response study was performed, reported as present-absent. Inferential statistical analysis using relative risk and moment ratio. Results: For analysis: two groups, control group-20 patients, group with fibromyalgia - 15 patients. Group with fibromyalgia-women 100% (n = 15), control group 60% (n = 12) women and 40% (n = 8) men; distribution by age, control group between 29-38 years and fibromyalgia group between 39-48 years; noting that people with fibromyalgia lack sympathetic skin response 0.2 times more than people who do not have fibromyalgia, the possibility that patients with fibromyalgia have small fiber neuropathy in 3%. Conclusions: An association was found between small fiber neuropathy and fibromyalgia, as reported in the international literature.
