ABSTRACT

Most of the ABO blood groups dealt with at the blood bank comply with the established laws of reciprocal antigen and antibody for that system, but there is a population that shows some discrepancies that must be sorted out in order to define the exact group. These differences can arise from the detection of weak groups of A (A3, Am, Ax, Ael, Aend) and B (B3, Bx, Bm), that are generally solved with adsorption-elusion techniques and investigation of A, B and H substances in saliva of patients with such incongruencies. Another type of discrepancies takes place in people with natural irregular antibodies (such as anti-A1, anti-H, -M, -N, -P1, Lea, Leb), immune antibodies that are detected in a saline medium as the result of a primary reaction, or in patients with Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia and patients with Immune Complexes related to AIDS, or with abnormal proteins, such as Multiple Myeloma.
