Case controls of amputate patients for tumor at Instituto Nacional de Rehabilitación. Follow-up of 6 years

ABSTRACT
Objective: To know the characteristics of the population of amputates for tumor in the National Rehabilitation Center (6 years). Material and methods: Review expedient’s amputees etiology tumoral from 1999 to 2005. Design: A retrospective, descriptive, transversal and observational study. Descriptive statistics and square Chi test: SPSS version 10 Windows. Results: Review 720 expedient’s, 53 amputees for tumor. Masculine (57%), female (43%). Age: the youngest 10 years and the oldest 74, 34 years old in average. Activities laboral before the diagnosis: employment (47%), student (28%), home (21%), unemployment (3.7%). After the diagnosis: Less people work (28%), student (15%), increment in home (26%) and unemployment (32%). Most frequent musculoskeletal Tumor osteosarcoma (60.3%). Reference Hospitals: INCAN (26.4%), CNR (26.4%), Pediatrics Hospital of Mexico (13.2%), H. Juárez Hospital (5.7%), Gea. Glz. Hospital (3.8%), Pediatrics National Institute. (1.9%). Evolution time tumor to time of the diagnosis: 1-5 years: (43.4%), lest 1 year (32.1%), more 10 years: (20.8%). Lower limb amputees (84.9%), Upper limb amputees (15.1%), amputate side right (51%), Chemotherapy: (66%). Adjuvant (62.3%), neoadjuvant (3.8%). Metastases (32%). Actual condition: died: (6%). Use prosthetics: 50.9%. Conclusions: Know the characteristics of the amputates population for musculoskeletal tumor. This characteristics suggest some risk factors for evaluating to late treatment and amputation. Vigilance groups of age with more risk.REFERENCES
