ABSTRACT

Introduction: In the anatomical arrangement of the great abdominal vessels, the lower vena cava is discretely to the right of the spinal column; the aortic artery is in the midline in front of the vertebral bodies, and the renal vessels have different lengths according to whether if they are right or left. Objective: To show an alternative elongation of the right renal vein using the left renal vein. Case presentation: Transplanted patient with the selected kidney that had a very short renal vein and no cava patch. It was decided to section the left renal vein and use it to elongate the right renal vein by end-toend anastomosis. Conclusions: With the elongation of the right renal vein by end-to-end anastomosis of the left renal vein, it is possible to obtain an optimal kidney for the performance of a kidney transplant of cadaveric origin, with excellent clinical and humoral results.
