Updating of anatomical, physiopathological and diagnostic aspects of varicocele

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Varicocele is a clinical entity that is observed in adolescents and young men. Along together with the technological development and the introduction of new methods in its study and treatment, it is necessary to provide professionals with the updated elements of a thematic review to determine the state of the art in the world. So, that becomes the main objective of this work. Methods: It was carried out a systematic review related to the subject in academic databases. The sources of information were, Scielo, Ebsco, Google Scholar and Pubmed. The full text version was obtained through free access in Pubmed, HINARI and also in some specialized journals. Developing: A detailed review of the anatomy of the testicle and the spermatic cord was made, emphasizing in the component of the pampiniform plexus, the current pathophysiological elements of varicocele, and the important data obtained by sonographic and phlebographic studies for the classification of uni and bilateral varicoceles. Conclusions: The topic of varicocele was reviewed according to current trends.
