ABSTRACT

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most frequent infectious diseases and represent the first cause of medical consultation in women of reproductive age. Among the risk factors for the development of this disease are sexual intercourse, bad habits of urination, use of spermicides, constipation, genetic factors and estrogen reduction. In the diagnosis the clinic should always predominate, the general urine test and the urine culture should be used rationally; There are biomarkers as new diagnostic methods that are being implemented. Regarding treatment, different clinical conditions require different durations of antimicrobial therapy, both excess days and their lack should be avoided. Various methods to prevent recurrent urinary infections such as the use of vaccines, cranberry, probiotics and estrogen therapy have been investigated.
