ABSTRACT

Fibrous dysplasia is a benign process of a probably malformative nature characterized by the presence of connective fibrous tissue with a characteristic swirling disposition in which mature, non-lamellar bones are present. There are two forms of presentation: a monostotic form and another polyostotic form, the latter has a special type Jaffé type (only with bone deformity). We present a 48-year-old white male patient with a personal history of hip fracture at 3 years of age and chronic gastritis with exacerbation events. The presumptive diagnosis was established by techniques of neuroimaging, computerized axial tomography and nuclear magnetic resonance, which revealed destruction of vertebral bodies and severe spinal cord compression, as well as left femur in the form of a quiet shepherd. The condition is not specifically treated, but sodium parmidate may be given to relieve pain.
