ABSTRACT

Introduction: Non-carious cervical lesions are the result of the loss of dental tissue in the amelocementary junction, which does not involve the presence of bacteria, are considered a growing problem in the practice of restorative dentistry. Objective: To characterize cervical non-carious lesions and identify the associated risk factors in the patients treated. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional observational study was carried out in a group of 118 patients selected by means of an intentional sampling that were examined in the Teaching Department of the Juan Manuel Márquez Dentistry Clinic of the Playa municipality by means of the medical interview, the dentistry clinical history and the oral exam. It was considered a non-carious cervical lesion when the patient presented some or combination of the erosion, abrasion and/or abfraction variants. Results: The highest percentage of those affected (68,64%) was between the ages of 30 and 44 with cervical abrasion, followed by dental erosion in the same age group. The risk factor most associated with these lesions was the wrong tooth brushing (60.17%). Conclusions: Non-carious cervical lesions have a high prevalence in this population, with abrasion being the most frequent. The risk factor associated with its appearance is incorrect tooth brushing.
