ABSTRACT

Introduction: Bone allografting has an important role in orthopedic surgery, it is an indispensable surgical resource in some complex cases. Despite the great worldwide experience in bone allografting and the efforts made in Mexico to found bone banks during past century, effective bone banking with capabilities to distribute allografts in all our country is a recent event. Utilization of bone allografts in Mexico. Since September the 26th of 2000 until November the 28th of 2005 this Bone and Tissue Bank has provided 9,700 allografts utilized mainly in orthopedic surgeries, these surgical procedures were done in 29 states around the Mexican Republic. The availability of bone allografts procured, processed and distributed according to national and international standards increases the therapeutic options and outcomes for our patients and contributes to the advance of the national orthopedic surgery.
