ABSTRACT

The juvenile Hallux valgus is a pathology whose frequency is unknown, and it is not related with the footwear. It is described in de literature that the surgical treatment has a high percentage of postoperative recurrence that goes from 45% to 75% treated with McBride’s Technique. In this study clinical and radiological files with juvenile Hallux valgus idiopathic were checked from 1990 to 2000, and that were treated with McBride’s Technique. Ninety nine patients were found, excluding 39. Forty eight out of these were female and 12 were male with an average age of 15.9 years. Thirty nine patients had a bilateral affection, 11 only the right one and 10 the left one, and a monitoring of 24.1 months. As a result of this study the 53% of the patients did not show pain and 47% did show pain. Thus, the juvenile Hallux valgus treatment must be individualized depending on the specific present elements.
