ABSTRACT

Migraine is a disorder of episodes of headache and neurological symptoms, its etiology encompasses different lifestyles, sleep disorders, diet and even a hereditary component. According to the third edition of "The International Classification of Headache Disorders" (ICHD-3) can be classified as migraine with aura and migraine without aura which is the most frequent presentation in 75% among patients. Regarding the pathophysiology, two different theories, the vascular and the neurovascular, are postulated; The participation of molecules such as the peptide related to the calcitonin gene (CGRP) and, to a lesser extent, the pituitary adenylate cyclase activating peptide (PACAP) is also proposed. The treatment should be based on general measures that modify the patient's lifestyle and the choice of drugs depends on the frequency of the crisis, the patient's preference, the presence of other symptoms such as nausea and vomiting; special groups such as migraine in pregnancy should not be forgotten, which should be treated with greater caution; It should be noted that in some cases of migraine, non-pharmacological techniques such as acupuncture have been proposed.
