ABSTRACT
Condylar hyperplasia is defined as the increase of bone formation in all dimensions of the mandibular condyle, which in turn causes alterations in the occlusion and an asymmetric mandibular growth as well as a compensatory maxillary growth, which results in an asymmetry maxillary too, creating a dentofacial deformity in the patient who presents this type of alteration in the growth of the mandibular condyle. The diagnosis of this type of alteration in growth is carried out mainly by facial analysis, nuclear medicine studies and laboratory tests.
Objective: The objective of this review of the literature is the role of condylar hyperplasia in dentofacial deformity and to propose a new option for condylar reconstruction for patients with condylar hyperplasia.
Conclusions: The clinical case of a patient treated at our Institution is shown by taking and applying both coronal processes for the mandibular condyle reconstruction, secondary to low condylectomy due to presenting left condylar hyperplasia.
