Acute ischemic stroke

ABSTRACT

The ischemic cerebrovascular event represents an acute entity of obstruction to cerebral blood flow of either thrombotic or embolic origin, and most of the time it is captured in the emergency service, since most occur in out-of-hospital settings. It is characterized by its high morbi-mortality and has wide clinical manifestations according to the topography of the affected artery. Its diagnosis is clinical and computed tomography should be performed to assess differential diagnosis and post-treatment evolution. The approach focuses on the effective window period, with alteplase being the treatment of choice and there are alternatives such as endovascular therapy.
