Oral health perception, quality of life and well-being in elderly

ABSTRACT
The changes in the demographic profile of the mexican population, demand new challenges for a best quality of life for the elders. Oral health perception in elders is considerate as an element of subjective well-being and quality of life. The objective of this study was to determine the oral health perception, quality of life and subjective well-being in an elders group and to find the possible relationship between them. A transversal descriptive study was done in a 115 elders sample, institutionalized and not institutionalized. Three instruments were used to measure; oral health, quality of life and subjective well-being. Most of the sample perceived bad status of oral health. The oral health perception was significantly associated with quality of life and well-being in both groups. It was concluded that the oral health perception in the elders, affect is the quality of life as well as the well-being perception.
