ABSTRACT

Introduction: Guillain-Barré syndrome is an acute inflammatory polyneuropathy of autoimmune etiology, with clinical expression in the peripheral nerves and their spinal roots.
Objective: To describe the evolution of a patient with Guillain-Barré syndrome after rehabilitation (occupational therapy).
Case presentation: A 14-year-old male patient was assisted at the Child Neurology Clinic at the International Center for Neurological Restoration from April to June 2017. The treatment included 11 weekly sessions of one hour during 56 days.
Conclusion: Occupational therapy was effective in this patient, since improvements in mobility, joint width and muscle strength in the shoulder, elbow and wrist were evident. The distal forceps improved, while positive evolution and its incorporation into activities of daily life were favored.
