ABSTRACT

Introduction: Cerebral palsy is defined as a group of disorders of development, movement and posture, attributed to lesions or non-progressive abnormalities of the immature brain. The musculoskeletal disorders are among the main problems associated with cerebral palsy, among the most common are the defects of ankle and foot posture, there is evidence that biomechanical and postural alterations can cause onychocryptosis, causing edema and pain, as well as alterations of the march. Material and methods: A descriptive, transversal study of a series of cases was carried out, patients with a diagnosis of cerebral palsy were included; in all cases, postural alterations of the foot and ankle were sought, to each one anamnesis and physical exploration was carried out looking for data of onychocryptosis, Results: The presence of onychocryptosis, was found in 44.4% of the patients included. Conclusions: Onychocryptosis, is a frequent complication in patients with cerebral palsy who present alterations in foot posture; it is important to consider preventive and management measures in order to avoid onychocryptosis and improve their quality of life.
