ABSTRACT

Objective: To describe a case of intravenous leiomyomatosis extending to the right ventricle through the inferior cava vein, and its integral treatment.
Setting: Third level health care hospital.
Case description: Woman, aged 41 years, who, two years after an hysterectomy due to a myosarcoma, started slowly with lipothymia episodes. An echocardiogram revealed a mass inside the inferior cava vein extending into the right cardiac chambers producing a low cardiac output. Computer-assisted axial tomography and magnetic resonance imaging findings allowed to plan the surgery as to perform it in one surgical time through a joint thoracic and abdominal approach using a cardiopulmonary shunt with cardioplegia and deep hypothermia. Final histopathologic report was of benign leiomyoma.
