Key words:

Aneurysm, history of medicine.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To know the history of aneurysms, both in its clinical and therapeutic aspects.
Design: Review and analysis of the corresponding literature (30 references).
Setting: Third level health care hospital.
Results: The first clinical-therapeutic reports on aneurysms date back to some 5000 years, but the first surgery as such was only performed some 1800 years ago; 1700 years had to go by before the next big step could be given in its surgical treatment. But, precisely the last 100 years have witnessed the most accelerated changes in this field, especially during the second half, and surely the last word has not been spoken yet.
