ABSTRACT

Eosinophilic esophagitis is a chronic disease mediated by the immune system, which is largely based on eosinophilic infiltration of the esophagus. It occurs predominantly in male sex. The most identified risk factor is atopy. Its symptoms are related to gastroesophageal reflux disease such as heartburn, nausea, and retrosternal pain mainly associated with exercise, epigastralgia and esophageal dysfunction. It is identified by biopsy by the presence of 15 or more eosinophils per high power field. Its most frequent complication is esophageal stenosis. Pharmacological treatment, diet and dilation encapsulate treatment paradigms
