Anterior mediastinal choriocarcinoma in male patient

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Choriocarcinoma is a malignant variety of non-seminomatous germ cell tumor. It is presented with more frequent in the chorionic epithelium of placenta and is very rare in men. The presentation in men is most common the testicles, being their extragonadal presentation very strange. Case report: a 21 year-old man, he did not have any personal pathological previous case. He had been presenting a progressive health history of cough, dyspnea, expectoration and chest pain. The Computed Tomographic was performed and detected an anterior mediastinal tumor accompanied of high levels of Alpha-Fetoproteins and Beta-Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin. The treatment for extragonadal germ cell tumor was started but the patients died. The autopsy confirmed the diagnostic of anterior mediastinal choriocarcinoma. Conclusion: In the presence of a patient with tumorous mass mediastinal is necessary to carry out an appropriate differential diagnosis by keeping in mind the clinical picture, imaging datas, and the location in the mediastinum.
