Behavior of Medical Sciences students in the face of active screening at COVID 19

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Given the existing epidemiological situation, students of Medical Sciences perform active research tasks. Objective: to describe the behavior of Medical Sciences students in the face of active research during COVID-19. Material y method: an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out from March to May 2020, in the North Polyclinic of Ciego de Ávila. The 320 Medical Sciences students assigned to the research of the health area, who constituted the universe of the research, were studied. The variables under study were: sources of information about COVID-19, knowledge of the disease, emotions, student behaviors. Results: The main sources of information of the students and professors of Medical Sciences about the COVID-19 was the one received in the training (100%), and the advice by the professors (100%). 100% of the students knew adequately the place of origin, the symptoms and the preventive measures. In the emotional sphere, the fear of contagion prevailed in 100%, as well as the sanitary hygienic behaviors of the use of the mask and the physical distance between the students themselves and with the population. Conclusions: this research provided new knowledge on the behavior of medical science students in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is highly lethal and contagious.
