ABSTRACT

Objective. To know the particularities of the “innocent” heart murmurs in children referred to the Cardiology Department.
Material and methods. 122 children were studied during one year. The auscultation of the murmurs included: their intensity, location, irradiation and grade. The children were also studied by X-ray and an electrocardiographic study.
Results. In 102 children the murmur was located in the mesocardic region and in 108 were grade II. In 120 (98.4%) children the X-ray showed normal flow.
Conclusions. Of the 200 children that were referred in one year 122 (61.0%) had a innocent murmurs blow and in 37 (30.31%) it was necessary to subject them to ecocardiogram study: in all the cases it was normal.
