ABSTRACT
Objective. To compare the effectiveness of the treatment the natural epinephrine with regard to the prednisone employment in the treatment of the laryngitis.
Material and methods. Ninety five children smaller than 5 years with laryngitis, were studied. They were integrated in two groups: the group A was treated with prednisone and the B with natural epinephrine. Result obtained in both groups of treatment were compared.
Results. In all the children, the delay in attending the hospital was of 1.5 days; in the group A, in 76.9% of the children the croup disappeared before 72 hours of the treatment; in this group, with racemic epinephrine, the mean of cough duration was 3.1 days while in the B group was of 2.5 days. The epinephrine was effective in 78.8% cases and the prednisone in 55.8%.
Conclusions. The epinephrine natural (levogira), inhaled, it is a good, sure and effective option in the treatment of laryngitis.
