Styles of parental socialization and self-esteem in adolescent pregnancy

ABSTRACT

Objective: To know the relation of the parental socialization styles of both parents and the self-esteem in the pregnant adolescent. Methods: Observational, cross-sectional study in which the self-application tools ESPA 29 to know parental socialization style and Rosemberg scale to mesure self-esteem, were used in 60 pregnant adolescents aged 11 to 19 years. Data were presented in means, standard deviation for continuous variables and in frequency with percentages for categorical variables. Results: The average age of the population was 17 to 19 years of age, married, higher average education, the prevalence of parental style indulgent in mother (45%) and father (49%), and 77% of the sample with elevated self-esteem. Conclusions: We analyzed the relationship of parental style of both parents with self-esteem without finding a negative relationship, however it is observed that the lack of involvement / supervision characteristic of the indulgent style is a common factor in this study for a teenage pregnancy.
