ABSTRACT
In the orthodontic treatment the bone is reabsorbed in areas which receive pression and placed in areas that receive tension. The remodelling processes answering a mechanical stimuli are locally controlled through biochemical mediators that, working together, coordinate the osteoblastic and osteoclastic activity. Among this mediators, the prostaglandins play an important role in the reabsorbing process and the bone apposition. Many drugs administrated to control pain after orthodontic activation have the capacity of influencing the tooth movement, due to its effect over the prostaglandins. This, according to recent researches, do not represent any problem in most of the cases, because to be able to inhibit the tooth movement, plasmatic levels higher than those reached by the majority of the analgesics are needed.
