ABSTRACT

Objective. To confirm if the therapeutical dose of cisapride in children with gastroesophagical reflux, are associated to electrocardiographic alterations.
Material and methods. Forty children were evaluated by electrocardiographic studies; all of them were below one year of age and suffered reflux. They received cisapride during 60 days, doses of 0.2 mg/kg every 8 hours. The electrocardiograms were taken at the begin of treatment and 60 days after. Results. The rhythm and the heart frequency as well as the electrocardiographic reports were normal: the wave P, the segment PR, the complex QRS, the axis QRS and the segment QT, were inside the range of normality for the age of the children and the heart frequency (for the segment QT).
Conclusions. Findings seem to justify the employment of this medication in cases of gastroesophagic reflux, if the recommendations of the pediatric gastroenterologic societies of Europe and the United States of America are respected.
