ABSTRACT

Gastric cancer is the second cause of cancer-related death and the fourth most frequent malignancy worldwide. Multiple studies, mainly Asian, have validated the safety and the short and long-term oncological results of laparoscopic gastrectomy. The indications for this procedure are limited to early and locally advanced gastric cancer, considering that D2 lymphatic dissection presents great technical difficulty. Multiple factors impact the result of this procedure: related to the surgeon, the procedure itself and the patient. Patients have a greater satisfaction and better quality of life.
