ABSTRACT
Objective. Determine effectiveness of the disodium cromoglycate in the treatment of the asthma exacerbation.
Material and methods. A comparative investigation in 170 children under 15 years, who were treated by suffered some episode of asthma exacerbation was done. They were divided in two groups: the group
A was treated with cromoglycate and the
B with steroids.
Results. Obtained in both group of treatment were compared.
Results. The average age was 7.8 years in the group
A and 6.2 years in the
B. The cromoglycate inhaled was effective in the 88.6% of the mild exacerbation and the 73.3% of the moderate. The exacerbation had a duration of 65.3% hours in the patients from group
A and 63.1 hours in those group
B. The treatment failed in the 14.1% from group
A and the 10.6% from group
B.
Conclusions. The cromoglycate was as effective as steroids in the treatment of the asthma bronchial exacerbation.
