ABSTRACT

Introduction. The COVID-19 pandemic has taken most health systems by surprise, the response to such an event has been staggered according to epidemiological scenarios, and research results have attempted to establish patient management in a dynamic but heterogeneous response, depending on each health organization or institution that publishes or implements it, as well as among different levels of medical care. Objective. To synthesize the information and gather it in the form of simple steps for the management of suspected or confirmed COVID-19 patients at the first level of care, according to best practices based on scientific and professional evidence. Material and methods. A review of scientific documents concerning the management of patients suspected or confirmed of COVID-19 at the first level of care was carried out. Period: the intentional search for documents was carried out between February and September 2020. Results and conclusions. A guide is presented for the management of patients suspected or confirmed with COVID-19 at the first level of care, with indications for health staff, patients and family members and/or caregivers.
