Use of ultrasound in neuraxial anesthesia

ABSTRACT

Neuraxial anesthesia is a technique used in surgical and obstetric procedures. It administers medication in the epidural space (epidural anesthesia) or the subarachnoid space (spinal anesthesia), in order to produce one or a combination of sympathetic, sensory or motor block. Its application has shown challenges, that is why in some occasions the use of pre procedure ultrasound has been implemented in clinical practice and in obstetric management, as part of algorithms for pathologies or specific conditions in the anatomy of patients.
