ABSTRACT

Furuncular myiasis is a rare skin infestation most commonly caused by the larvae of Dermatobia hominis. We present a 30-year-old woman who, after a hiking trip to Chiapas, Mexico, presented an erythematous nodule on her temple. Clinical and dermoscopic findings confirmed the diagnosis of a cutaneous myiasis. In this case, the definitive treatment with surgical removal of the larva was successful. It is important to consider a cutaneous myiasis in patients who present with furuncular-type lesions and a recent history of travelling to an endemic area.
