ABSTRACT

Introduction: Application of nursing process to a woman hospitalized with difficulty of oral expression by deafness. Objectives: Formulate of nursing diagnoses. Implement of patient care. Evaluate to results. Assessment: 42 years old hospitalized woman, she has speaking difficulty because she is deaf. She has a discharge from hospital two days ago but nobody go to her. It isn’t possible verbal communication. She makes guttural sounds. She communicates using body language but cannot understand her. Nursing diagnoses: Impaired verbal communication related to insufficient stimuli and information, evidenced by difficulty in comprehending usual communication pattern and difficulty expressing thoughts verbally. Interrupted family processes related by change in health status and changes in interaction whit community, evidenced by alteration in participation for problem-solving. Implementation of plan care: To achieve the objectives “patient satisfaction” and “social support”, are carried out the interventions: Improve the communication of hearing deficit and Patient identification through facilitating visit and exchange of care information. Results: Basic communication and location of contacts on Facebook was achieved. The woman was transferred to her home. Conclusions: With the application of nursing process, communication was possible with the patient who suddenly left her home and was along in an environment where no one had understood her. The dedication time was essential. Follow-up at the family clinic is suggested.
