ABSTRACT

Introduction. The Kawasaki Disease (KD) is a pediatric vascular disease of unknown etiology. Clinical feature are: fever, vasculitis and coronary damage.
Objective. The purpose of this paper is to show the clinical and laboratory findings, and the evolution of seven patients with KD.
Material and methods. The clinical record of seven cases of KD were reviewed. The variables studied were: age, sex, clinical signs, gabinet and laboratory studies, treatment, complications and outcome.
Results. Four patients developed coronary disease with dilatation larger them 4 mm; one patient with miocarditis and pericardic effusion, and one had aortic insufficiency. Six patients received gammaglobulin plus aspirin, and evolution was satisfactory; they were followed for a 8 month period with ecocardiographic controls.
Conclusions. The diagnosis is made by clinical criteria. It is very important to give an early treatment, during the first week of the disease, in order to prevent coronary disease and after that, isquemic heart disease in adolescent ages and in young men.
