ABSTRACT

The 19th century, Charcot, Bourneville, the Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris and the women interned there are all protagonists in the construction of the Iconographie Photographique de la Salpêtrière (IPS), an album with more than 100 portraits whose historical relevance marked the field of medicine and the arts through photography, a central part in the construction of a collective imaginary that reaches us even in the 21st century. We have ventured to take up an important chapter in the history of medicine, neurology, psychology, psychiatry and women in this context, to create an artistic proposal in which we chose one of the best known photographs of the IPS, to work under the method of image processing, null screens by refraction, optical systems and light. We propose to achieve variants of visualization and the deconstruction of an icon that is notorious since the 19th century, which marked a duty to see from the hysteria, considerations against which we can still expose questions.
