ABSTRACT

Purpose: It was carried out a study to determine the frequency of the components of the Class II malocclusion in a population of Nezahualcoyotl, Mexico. Material and method: 100 x-rays of patients between 6 and 13 years of age were examined at a clinic of the UNAM, 46 male and 54 female. The selection of x-rays was lateral of skull, which were traced and managed in a statistical package (JOE), we used the statistical design χ2 for gender and age. The frequency was analyzed in relation to the variables: mandibular retrusion, maxillary protrusion and mixed as well as age and gender. Results: It was determined that the frequency was 64% for the mandibular retrusion, 19% for the maxillary protrusion and 17% for mixed. Besides observing that age is not a predisponent factor for this malocclusion type as same as the gender.
