ABSTRACT

Objective: Burnout emotional distress among 156 dentists in Mexico City were studied. Evidence has been found that some dentist suffer from high stress levels related to their practice, whereas the related variables with their marital status, study levels and job time had a positive correlation in the Burnout syndrome. Material and method: The evaluation instruments were; General health Questionnaire, Holmes and Rahe slip of recent events and Burnout’s inventory. Results: According to the General Health Questionnaire 31 probable cases were found, that is, persons that have enough symptoms for therapy, with more females. Burnout syndrome detected 42 (26.92%) low level; 76 (48.72%) middle level and 38 (24.36%) high stress level; the Holmes and Rahe’s slip for recent events brought 25 (16.03%) low level, 84 (53.85%) medium and 47 (30.13%) high stress level.
