ABSTRACT

Introduction. Acute appendicitis is very rare in neonates. The incidence is less than 2% amongst the children treated for acute appendicitis below the age of 2 years.
Case report. We report two cases with neonatal appendicitis in a catastrophic way, with intestinal perforation, different gestational weeks, bad clinical course and a high mortality.
Discussion. We emphasized the careful attention to the clinical. An early diagnosis and a prompt surgical intervention may improve the high mortality. Acute appendicitis must be considered in the differential diagnosis of conditions causing a surgical emergency in the neonate.
