ABSTRACT
Handwashing is important to reduce healthcare-associated infections, which was described by Semmelweis and Holmes in the 19th century, based on studies carried out on women in labor, due to the high frequency of postpartum fever and observed infections. in the wounds of these women. Following the history and reviewing various bibliographies, it is observed that handwashing
continues to be a worldwide problem, which is why this review was carried out with the aim of updating the subject of handwashing in health institutions.
