ABSTRACT

Introduction: neurocysticercosis is the most common cause of adult-onset epilepsy in third world countries. It is a serious public health problem due to its permanent consequences. A rare complex case is identified in Brazil, in compliance with the “Mais Médicos para o Brazil” program.
Objective: to expose the clinical, radiological and epidemiological characteristics of a patient with neurocysticercosis.
Case presentation: a patient with convulsive syndrome is presented, who is treated at the Tijuca basic health unit and she is referred to the Santa Casa Clinica of Birigui in Sao Paulo, where a study was carried out and neurocysticercosis was diagnosed. It was treated and stabilized, but she was left with the consequences of the disease.
Conclusions: a computerized axial tomography was carried out that demonstrates the presence of the disease. This is considered a key test for the diagnosis of neurocysticercosis. It is important to educate people about proper sanitary hygiene habits to avoid disease and the permanent sequelae it causes in the central nervous system.
